Change an LPG Cylinder
Forklifts are powered by a variety of sources. They can run utilizing gasoline, LP gas or liquid propane, battery or diesel. LP is a clean burning fuel preferred for many uses. There are several facilities that have large liquid propane supplies on site. This allows forklifts to be refueled anytime they require. In other places, the facility will have spare LP cylinders which could be changed out when the equipment needs to be refueled.
When changing out an LP cylinder, you must truly be careful so as to avoid possible serious injuries. For instance: be sure to wear the appropriate safety equipment such as goggles or safety glasses and heavy gloves. Turn off the ignition of the forklift prior to changing out the tank. Then, close the cylinder valve by turning it until it is closed securely. Utilize your hand to loosen the hose connection to the tank. Don't forget that it will turn in the opposite direction of a normal connection and never use a metal tool or any type of wrench on these connections. They are meant to be tightened only by using the hand.
