History
During 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. In the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years.
